To undertake an Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship you need to be at least 15 years of age (generally in Years 10, 11 and 12), otherwise you must obtain dispensation from the Queensland Department of Education and the Arts to undertake paid employment during school hours.
To qualify as an Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship, some form your apprenticeship or traineeship must be undertaken during school hours (i.e. paid work, off-the-job or on-the-job training), otherwise it will be regarded as a part-time apprenticeship or traineeship.
Some apprenticeships and traineeships require a minimum standard of education, which varies between different training programmes. If you don't have the minimum standard, you may still be allowed to enter into the apprenticeship or traineeship after being assessed by the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA).

An apprentice or trainee that meets the Queensland Government eligibility guidelines, but does not meet the Australian Government guidelines can still undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship, but will not be eligible for Australian Government incentives.
