How do School-based apprenticeships and traineeships work?

School-based apprenticeships and trainesships are generally available to students in year 10, 11 or 12. The student normally spends one day per week working in your business, with the opportunity of also working after school hours, on weekends and school holidays.

As an employer you are responsible for paying the student a School-based training wage, for the time they spend in your workplace. You are not required to pay holiday pay, sick leave or for time spent in structured training with their school or training provider. However, you are required to provide the student with a minimum of 48 days paid employment per year.
