1) Is there a probationary period before I commit to placing my apprentice or trainee to training?

There is a probationary period which may vary between 30 to 90 days, depending on the type of apprenticeship or traineeship being undertaken. Probationary periods can be shortened or lengthened on application within the original probationary period, by you or the apprentice or trainee. For more information click here.

2) How do I find an apprentice or trainee?

Before you start the recruitment process, you need to carefully consider the costs and benefits of employing an additional employee in your business. You would also need to first establish the basic roles, responsibilities, skills, experience and employment status (i.e. full-time, part-time or School-based) you require to fill the vacant position. 3) What are my obligations and expectations as an employer?

4) What incentives and allowances are available for Australian Apprenticeships?

Both the Australian and Queensland Governments provide various incentives, allowances and subsidies to assist and encourage you to employ and train new staff and up skill your existing employees through apprenticeships and traineeships. For more information click here.
