Trade Training Taskforce

Released 08/04/09

The Queensland Government, industry and unions are working together on a joint Trade Training Taskforce to implement a safety net package to support apprentices, trainees and their employers through the challenging economic times.

The Taskforce has released its Apprentice and Trainee Package of initiatives and Information Sheets for employers and registered training organisations.

One initiative already launched is a register of apprentices and trainees who have lost or are at risk of losing employment, and are seeking ongoing employment to complete their apprenticeship or traineeship. This register can be accessed by employers at www.apprenticeshipsinfo.qld.gov.au

The Taskforce is working to keep every person now undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship in the system and are encouraging employers to retain and train skilled staff to support the recovery of industry.

Employers are also being asked to continue to offer apprenticeships and traineeships to young people starting out in their careers as well as to dislocated workers who need to reskill, upskill and explore other career paths to prepare the economy for a future recovery.
