Once the student and their employer have decided on the qualification the student will be undertaking, a training provider (also known as a Supervising Registered Training Organisation or SRTO) will need to be selected to deliver the training component of their apprenticeship or traineeship. The training provider can either be a private or public (TAFE) provider.
The training provider, in consultation with the employer and your school, must draw up a Training Plan and an Education, Training and Employment Schedule (ETES Form), which outlines both the student's on and off-the-job training requirements.
It is essential that some part of an Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship (either on or off-the-job training) be conducted within school hours. It is therefore very beneficial to have all associated parties present when negotiating the training program or plan. This ensures that the needs and circumstances of all parties are taken into consideration.
Having all interested parties present at the initial signup induction also means that associated paperwork can be completed with a minimum degree of difficulty. Although not always possible, this “Best Practice” model provides all parties with an opportunity to meet, discuss responsibilities and to express any concerns or suggestions they may have towards the apprenticeship or traineeship.
