Completing the qualification

It should be remembered that a student completing an Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship does not guarantee them employment. However, a large percentage of Australian School-based apprentices or trainees are retained, as employers understand the benefits of having a dedicated and qualified staff member who knows and understands their business.

If a student is unable to complete their Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship by the end of Year 12, then their Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship will usually be converted into either a full-time or part-time (min 15hrs / week) apprenticeship or traineeship arrangement, until they have completed their qualification.

Additional apprenticeship or traineeship career opportunities

If the student is able to complete their Australian School-based apprenticeship or traineeship while still at school, their employer may be eligible to receive additional government incentives, if the apprentice or trainee chooses to undertake an additional apprenticeship or traineeship in either:
•      The same industry field at a higher certificate level or
•      The same or higher certificate level in another industry field

The apprentice or trainee can choose to undertake this additional apprenticeship or traineeship qualification with either their original employer or with a new employer.
